{"id":488,"date":"2021-11-18T05:50:18","date_gmt":"2021-11-18T05:50:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.calm-ebsd.com\/?page_id=488"},"modified":"2021-12-31T14:34:06","modified_gmt":"2021-12-31T14:34:06","slug":"aim","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.calm-ebsd.com\/index.php\/news\/aim\/","title":{"rendered":"Aim"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>CALM is a stand-alone software for determining the <strong>lattice parameters of<\/strong> the best-fitting <strong>Bravais lattice types<\/strong>  <strong>and<\/strong> thus the very likely <strong>crystal symmetry<\/strong> of a typically unknown phase <strong>from a single<\/strong> large-angle EBSD<sup>1<\/sup> or TKD<sup>2<\/sup><strong> pattern<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-bottom\" style=\"grid-template-columns:35% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"220\" height=\"201\" src=\"http:\/\/www.calm-ebsd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/RecLatticeRot.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1518 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p style=\"font-size:14px\">The animation shows the result <strong>from<\/strong> a single pattern which represents <strong>an incomplete<\/strong> <strong>arrangement of reciprocal lattice points<\/strong>. This is used to identify the Bravais <strong>lattice type<\/strong> <strong>and<\/strong> decides about the <strong>lattice parameters<\/strong>. <br><br><em>For the selected lattice type, the darker dots represent centerings whereas the bright dots indicate unit cell corners.<\/em> <em>The omnipresent translation symmetry leads to the fact that not all points of the represented unit cell are or have to be occupied.<\/em> <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CALM allows a playful recognition of fundamental relationships between crystal and reciprocal lattice and thus offers <strong>interesting options for university education<\/strong> and teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Please note:<\/span> Lattice parameter determination with CALM <strong>only<\/strong> <strong>makes sense<\/strong> if much more accurate methods like XRD<sup>3<\/sup> fail, or alternative methods like <strong>local phase characterisation<\/strong> in TEM<sup>4<\/sup> are not available, more time consuming and possibly also more complicated.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:22px\">Operation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The software has a graphical<strong> user<\/strong> <strong>interface<\/strong> with check boxes and radio buttons and is <strong>operated by mouse and keyboard shortcuts<\/strong>.
